Mer om Nick Drake

Nick Drake, born on June 19, 1948, in Rangoon, Burma, was an English singer-songwriter whose gentle, melancholic music remains influential long after his untimely death in 1974. Growing up in a musically enriched environment, Drake learned piano and guitar at an early age, developing a distinctive, intricate finger-picking style. He attended Cambridge University but left to pursue music, releasing his debut album, 'Five Leaves Left', in 1969. Despite critical acclaim, Drake's work initially failed to find a wide audience, partly due to his aversion to live performances and interviews. His subsequent albums, 'Bryter Layter' (1970) and the stark, haunting 'Pink Moon' (1972), similarly struggled commercially during his lifetime. Plagued by depression and feeling deeply misunderstood, Drake's life ended tragically at the age of 26. Over the decades, however, his music has posthumously reached a vast audience, celebrated for its poetic lyricism, emotional depth, and enduring beauty. Today, Nick Drake is revered as a pioneer of the singer-songwriter genre, his legacy living on through countless artists he has inspired.
